Low-Demand Summer Solstice Rituals

The summer solstice: the peak of the sun’s power, full sun, full energy, maximum abundance, right?

It’s also peak "life" season. Schools are getting ready to break for the summer, plans are being made for holidays, the garden feels like it needs weeding every single day, and it feels like absolutely everyone needs a bit of you!

If you are feeling overwhelmed with the busyness of the season, you are not alone.

Thankfully, the sun does not demand perfection. It does not require you to create flawless rituals or elaborate backyard bonfires. It simply asks that you show up as you are and notice the changes in the season.

So, if you are running on low energy, here are four low-demand ways to celebrate the turning of the year—no preparation required.

Plant and notebooks on a sunny window sill

1. The Solar Charge

It’s not just humans who benefit from a solar charge during this time.

Place your crystals, tarot cards, or journal on a sunny windowsill for an hour to let them infuse the power of the golden light. This is an ideal opportunity to get the kids involved, too; they can pick their favourite pebble, stick, or even a beloved teddy bear to join in the charging.

Water can also be infused this way, whether it's for your plants, your pets, or yourself. The method is similar to making moon water, but the solar energy feels entirely different!

2. A "Golden Hour" Toast

Are early bedtimes or sheer exhaustion stopping you from staying up all night to watch the solstice sunrise? How about admiring the beauty of the sun with a golden hour toast instead?

Around 8:00 PM, grab a glass or mug of something bright and sunny. That could be a glass of orange juice, a crisp Chardonnay, or even a mug of fruity herbal tea. Step outside or find a cozy spot by the window where you can watch the golden light glow.

Slowly take three deep breaths and think of one thing that has blossomed for you so far this year. Sip your drink and feel that golden glow seeping into every cell of your body.

Tip for parents: If you have children who wake at the crack of dawn, you can do this exact same ritual to celebrate the dawning of the solstice. I mean, you are up anyway, so your children might as well join you!

3. Kitchen Witchery: The "Sun Feast"

Don’t have the time or energy to plan an extensive feast? Why not embrace the quintessential summer staple of a "picky bits" tea, but with a sun-themed twist?

Browse your cupboards, fridge, and freezer for yellow, orange, or round foods.

  • Honey on toast

  • Yellow bell peppers

  • Oranges or clementines

  • Lemonade

  • Fried eggs (sunny-side up!)

  • Pineapple chunks

  • Mini pizzas

  • Potato smiles

When your feast is laid out, allow yourself a quiet moment to feel gratitude to the sun for its energy in making these foods grow.

4. Pocket-Sized Plant Magic

Maybe you don’t have space for a massive garden that provides a bountiful harvest. Maybe you lack the bandwidth to weave intricate flower crowns, or perhaps the thought of sitting down to make daisy chains exhausts you right now. That is okay.

Simply tuck a single sprig of a "sun herb"—like rosemary, mint, or a bright yellow flower—into your pocket or buttonhole for the day. Every time you brush against it or catch its scent, let it serve as a quick reminder to ground yourself and breathe.

Brightest Blessings.
